This Edwardian Celtic Revival fish knife and fork set is of Scottish provincial origin from around 1910, originating from Oban. The set comprises silver-plated cutlery with polished green marble handles, featuring an engraved Celtic knotwork and foliate blade design alongside a maker mark for R Drummond Oban. The set displays smooth cylindrical handles with rounded ends, a tapered bolster at the junction to the metal, and delicate scrolling vine motifs etched onto the wide fish knife blade. The longest piece measures 19 cm long. This antique dining set suits placement upon a sideboard top or within a display cabinet in a traditional dining room or kitchen.

FAQs

Cutlery from this period incorporates traditional knotwork engravings and foliate motifs inspired by historical Scottish artwork, combined with electroplated nickel silver construction produced during the early twentieth century.

These pieces frequently pair silver-plated metalwork with handles made from carved natural minerals like marble and agate, or early synthetic resins designed to imitate stone patterns.

Authentic examples feature crisp hand-engraved patterns, electroplate makers stamps on the silver elements, and naturally cool mineral handles displaying subtle pattern variations.

Incorporate individual vintage serving pieces alongside contemporary tableware on a dining table or present them inside a glass display case on a sideboard.

Clean items gently by hand using warm water and mild soap while avoiding submersion of the handles, followed by soft drying and periodic buffing with specialized silver polish.
