Pate de verre, literally translated as glass paste, is a glass casting technique reintroduced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries in France, closely associated with the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements.

Finely crushed glass is mixed with colourants and a binding agent to form a paste, which is painted or packed inside a refractory mould before kiln firing to fuse the glass particles.

Authentic pieces feature a dense, slightly sugary surface texture with internal micro-bubbling, sharp moulded relief details, and usually an etched or moulded signature near the base.

Position the vessel on a sill or shelf adjacent to natural light sources to emphasize its translucent properties and sculptural relief against minimalist backdrops.

Wash gently by hand using lukewarm water and a neutral liquid detergent with a soft microfibre cloth, ensuring rapid temperature shifts and harsh abrasives are avoided.
