Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Norwegian silversmiths began producing guilloche enamel thimbles in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Prominent makers such as David-Andersen and Aksel Holmsen refined the technique of applying translucent vitreous enamel over machine-engraved sterling silver patterns.

These items are crafted from high-grade sterling silver (often marked 925S or 830S), decorated with powdered vitreous glass enamel fired at high temperatures. The interior and top dimples may feature gold gilding to prevent tarnishing and friction wear.

Authentic pieces carry hallmarks on the inner rim or base edge, typically including the purity mark 925S or STERLING, alongside a makers mark such as the scales symbol for David-Andersen. The enamel should be smooth, without chips, revealing precision engine-turned patterns underneath.

Small silver collectables are suitable for display inside glass-fronted curio cabinets, antique printer trays, or velvet-lined shadow boxes mounted on a wall. Placing them under a glass cloche on a bookshelf highlights their fine metalwork and detailed enamelling.

Wipe the glass enamel surface gently with a soft microfibre cloth dampened with warm water. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, chemical dips, or abrasive metal polishes, as these can crack the enamel coating or remove decorative gilding.
