Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Industrial steel cupboards were primarily manufactured throughout the late nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries for workshops, factories, and commercial utility rooms due to their fire resistance and durable structural design. Over time, protective layers of paint were applied, creating layered, weathered finishes as they aged in functional environments.

These cabinets were typically fabricated from heavy-gauge riveted or welded sheet steel, reinforced with rolled iron frames and heavy strap hinges. Doors featured simple mechanical latches or slide bolts to secure contents in industrial settings.

Authentic pieces display natural wear patterns, genuine surface oxidisation, hand-riveted seams, and thick, uneven layers of historical paint rather than artificially distressed modern coatings. Look for original mechanical latches, heavy structural weight, and signs of functional age around high-contact areas like handles and base edges.

A distressed steel cupboard acts as a striking tactile focal point in contemporary, loft, or minimalist spaces, offsetting clean architectural lines with raw texture. Use it as functional storage in an entryway, dining space, or bathroom to introduce industrial character alongside warm timber or soft textiles.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or water, which can trigger further rust formation. To preserve flaking paint and prevent ongoing oxidisation, apply a microcrystalline wax or clear matte sealer across the exposed metal and paint layers.
