This Georgian Colonial trunk dates from around 1800 and takes the form of a rectangular teak chest with a wash finish in warm brown. The lid incorporates pairs of ribbed metal bosses along its edges, complemented by a brass keyhole escutcheon centred on the front elevation and metal drop carrying handles mounted on the sides. A stepped plinth base supports the lower section, while natural surface wear shows across the wooden panels from age. The chest measures 35 cm high, 77 cm wide and 53 cm deep, offering practical proportions for everyday storage needs. Placed within a gentleman's library, hallway or living room, the piece functions well at the foot of a bed or beneath a window as a traditional storage chest for linens, blankets or books.

Late 18th-century teak trunks were constructed for durability during maritime transport and colonial trade. Made from dense teak wood resistant to moisture and pests, these trunks feature straightforward joinery, reinforced metal mounts, and heavy brass or iron fittings.

These coffers were crafted primarily from solid teak timber, valued for its natural oils and strength. Key structural elements included hand-cut joinery, heavy side carrying handles, and central brass keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period teak trunks exhibit hand-planed wood surfaces, original cast or hand-forged hardware, and natural timber shrinkage consistent with age. Wear around the base, historic lock mechanisms, and authentic oxidisation on metal fittings also indicate original period pieces.

An antique teak trunk functions as a coffee table in a living room or positioned at the foot of a bed for linen storage. Its warm timber tones provide textural contrast alongside upholstered furniture and neutral wall palettes.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish periodically to preserve the surface. Avoid placing the trunk adjacent to direct heat sources or high humidity to prevent timber movement and finish deterioration.
