This Art Deco novelty table lamp originates from France circa 1935. The piece combines a polished brass dog figurine and a parrot finial on an arched arm, paired with a beehive-shaped, ribbed frosted glass shade set upon a rectangular marble plinth. The materials comprise gilded spelter, white frosted glass, and natural stone, presented in a palette of warm metallic gold and white. Visible details include a textured bird finial at the apex, horizontal moulded ribs circling the glass globe, and a seated hound sculpture with a collar detail resting on the marble foundation. The assembly measures 32 cm high, 11 cm wide, and 11 cm deep. Ideal for accent illumination, this decorative desk accessory fits naturally onto a sideboard top in a living area, study, or children's bedroom to provide gentle ambient lighting.

FAQs

French Art Deco novelty lighting from the 1930s often combined functional illumination with stylized animal figures, geometric forms, and mixed materials such as marble, brass, and frosted glass.

These lamps frequently utilized cast brass, spelter, or bronze figures mounted on white or coloured marble plinths, topped with moulded frosted glass shades and bent metal support arms.

Authentic pieces generally feature original patinated metalwork, period-correct moulded glass shades with age-appropriate surface wear, original brass bulb sockets, and heavy marble bases.

Position the lamp on a contemporary sideboard, executive desk, or bedside table to create an accent piece that balances historic character with modern decor.

Dust metal components with a soft dry cloth, clean glass shades using mild detergent and water when disconnected, and avoid abrasive polishes that could strip historic patination.
