Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910), Edwardian silver sugar baskets frequently drew inspiration from 18th-century Neo-Classical and Rococo revival designs. They commonly feature pierced openwork silver bodies, swing handles, fitted cobalt blue glass liners, and were often sold in custom fitted presentation cases.

The basket outer structure was made from sheet sterling silver that was pierced using fretsaws or hand punches to create decorative motifs. A removable hand-blown cobalt glass liner was fitted inside to contain the sugar, while matching tongs and custom plush-lined leatherette cases completed the set.

Authentic British sterling silver items feature a series of stamped hallmarks, including the lion passant for silver purity (.925), an assay office mark (such as a leopards head for London or an anchor for Birmingham), a makers mark, and a specific date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Cased silver sets can be styled open on sideboards, console tables, or within glass display cabinets to highlight both the metalwork and the lining fabric. Grouping silver items alongside dark timber or modern glassware creates visual contrast in traditional and contemporary spaces alike.

Remove the blue glass liner before cleaning the silver frame with a specialized silver polishing cloth or mild silver dip. Clean the glass liner separately with warm water and mild detergent, ensuring it is entirely dry before reinserting to prevent moisture accumulation against the metal.
