This vintage mid-century cluster ring dates from circa 1955. It is formed of a large, cushion-cut dark blue natural sapphire in a rubover setting, framed by a scalloped diamond halo setting of twenty-four eight-cut diamonds. The piece is crafted in 18k white gold and platinum with a split shank design featuring slender shoulders set with additional diamonds. The head of the ring measures 1.76 x 1.45 cm. Designed for everyday wear, this ring sits on the finger as a statement piece suitable for formal occasions and regular use. The contrasting silver metal tones and dark blue hue create a classic visual presentation, while the detailed openwork gallery adds depth to the profile. It remains an enduring example of mid-century fine jewellery craftsmanship.

During the mid-20th century, cluster ring designs featured prominent central gemstones framed by brilliant diamonds to maximise surface presence and light reflection.

High-grade jewellery from this era typically combines platinum or white gold settings with natural corundum sapphires and brilliant-cut diamonds.

Identification relies on precious metal hallmark inspection, gemmological laboratory analysis for thermal treatment, and evaluation of mid-century gem-cutting styles.

This style functions as a standalone focal piece on the right hand or as a distinctive alternative engagement ring for daily wear.

Clean the metal setting and gemstones using warm water, liquid detergent, and a soft brush, followed by routine professional prong checks.
