This Bohemian wine jug dates from around 1900 in the Bohemian style. The piece consists of clear glass with gold gilt highlights, featuring a squat rounded body, an elongated slice-cut neck, a loop handle, and a fitted bulbous stopper. The surface includes a gilded floral garland decoration, hand-gilded accents, and a gilded rim around the base. The stopper is spherical with a pointed top, the handle is curved with a closed loop attachment, and the clear glass body reveals interior translucency. The jug measures 28 cm high, 12 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. It functions as a decorative decanter or serveware item on a sideboard top in a dining room or living space.

FAQs

Bohemian cut glass refers to fine glass and crystal crafted in the historical regions of Bohemia and Silesia, celebrated since the 16th century for high clarity, intricate hand-engraving, and elaborate gilding.

These vessels were hand-blown using potassium-carbonate glass mixtures, hand-cut on stone wheels to create facets, and accented with fired gold leaf gilding or hand-painted enamel ornamentation.

Authentic period examples generally exhibit hand-ground pontil marks on the base, subtle mouth-blown character, age-consistent wear on the gilded surface, and clean cut edges.

Display the jug on a dining sideboard, bar cart, or tray to add reflective light and subtle gilded detail to modern dining room or lounge settings.

Hand-wash gently using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive cloths or dishwasher cleaning which can strip away delicate surface gilding.
