Description

A fine Royal Worcester slender ovoid pedestal vase, dated 1923, finely hand-painted with pink roses and foliage by Walter Sedgley, the work signed by the artist.

The vase has a gilt flared neck, gilt circular foot and square base, with distinctive gilt scroll handles modelled with jester mask terminals. The body is decorated in the traditional Worcester manner with soft pink roses and shaded foliage on a warm blush ground.

The underside bears the Royal Worcester crown and circle mark in puce, shape number 1716, and date code for 1923.

Walter Sedgley was a respected Royal Worcester flower painter, best known for his rose decoration, and this vase is a charming and decorative example of his work.
