Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian marquetry bookcases combine functional glazed storage with intricate decorative timber inlays. Influenced by Neoclassical and Sheraton Revival designs, these pieces often feature figured veneers, geometric astragal glazing bars, and classical motifs such as urns and ovals.

Cabinetmakers utilised figured hardwoods such as birds eye maple, mahogany, and satinwood for exterior veneers. Inlay motifs were executed using contrasting fruitwoods and boxwood, with blown glass panels held within timber astragal glazing bars.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, natural timber colour variations, and hand-cut marquetry veneers. Look for slight irregularities in the wood grain, period-correct brass hardware, and original lock mechanisms.

Place the piece against a neutral or deep-toned wall to highlight the timber grain and marquetry. Use the glazed upper section to display curated ceramics, glassware, or bound volumes alongside contemporary decorative objects.

Keep timber veneers away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying and fading. Dust regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood finish.
