Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sauce boats emerged in early eighteenth-century dining culture across Western Europe to serve specialized gravies and warm condiments. Initially crafted in pairs, these vessels featured low bodies and dual spouts before evolving into the classic single-spouted form with a rear handle.

Traditional sauce boats were crafted from solid sterling silver or silver plate over copper or nickel alloy. Components such as the cast scroll handles and decorative pad or shell feet were typically soldered onto the main raised or seam-constructed body.

Authenticity is determined by examining stamped hallmarks or makers marks, typically found on the underside of the base or near the rim. Key indicators include hallmark symbols for silver purity, town assay marks, date letters, and signs of period hand-craftsmanship.

An antique silver sauce boat can be displayed as part of a curated dining table centrepiece or positioned atop a sideboard alongside glassware and polished decanters. Alternatively, it serves as a refined vessel for small floral arrangements or decorative objects.

Maintain silver by washing gently in warm water with mild dish soap and drying thoroughly with a soft microfibre cloth. Polish periodically using specialized, non-abrasive silver foam or polish, and store in anti-tarnish cloth bags when not in use.
