Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Neo-Classical wall lights, dating from 1920, takes the form of flaming torches. Constructed from ormolu, frosted glass, and bronze, they display a rich gold colour throughout their metallic components. Each light incorporates a textured geometric cross-hatching pattern along the torch section and detailed arrow motifs towards the base, alongside the frosted glass flame-shaped shade mounted on top. The pieces measure 43 cm high, 12 cm wide, and 15.5 cm deep. These fixtures suit narrow wall spaces within a home today, functioning as ambient lighting in hallways, living rooms, or dining areas. Their design brings classical architectural character to interior schemes, complementing both traditional and transitional decor settings while providing functional illumination.

FAQs

Neo-Classical torch wall lights draw inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman iconography, using motifs such as flaming torches, laurel leaves, and symmetrical column forms to create balanced, architectural lighting fixtures.

Fixtures from this era were commonly crafted from cast bronze or brass finished with fine gilding, often paired with blown or moulded frosted glass shades shaped to imitate flickering flames.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy cast metal composition, crisp hand-chased surface details, age-appropriate surface oxidisation on the reverse, and original threaded components or fitting mounts.

Position a pair symmetrically on either side of a large hallway mirror, above a dining room sideboard, or along a narrow corridor to add structured ambient lighting and classical vertical lines.

Dust the metal elements gently using a soft dry brush to preserve the gilding without scratching, and clean the glass shades separately using lukewarm water and mild soap after removing them from the frame.
