This Swiss decorative flask from circa 1750 takes a rectangular form with a narrow cylindrical neck and an open mouth. The object comprises opaque white milk glass finished with coloured glass frit, displaying a maximalist spatter pattern and combed decoration in reddish-brown, dark brown, and a single splash of bright blue on the body. The surface exhibits a glossy glaze and distinctive feathered swirls that run vertically down the sides from the shoulders to the base. The piece measures 13.5 cm high. It suits display on a mantelpiece in a traditional interior today, positioned as an accent object on a flat surface.

Milk glass, historically known as opaline glass, is an opaque or translucent white glass blown or pressed into decorative shapes, widely manufactured across Europe during the 18th century as an alternative to costly imported porcelain.

Craftsmen created splattered milk glass by rolling a gather of opaque molten white glass over crushed coloured glass frit, which was then reheated, combed or manipulated, and hand-blown into a mould or shape.

Authentic pieces typically feature a hand-finished pontil mark on the base, slight structural asymmetry from manual blowing, subtle wear patterns on contact points, and variation in colorant density.

Display the flask on a floating shelf, fireplace mantelpiece, or open bookcase where natural light can accentuate the vitreous surface texture and hand-applied patterns.

Dust gently with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and clean only when necessary using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding chemical solvents and sudden temperature shifts.
