The vessel displays engraved vertical staves, horizontal banding with simulated screw fixings, two opposing angular upright handles, and a pair of tongs ending in detailed bird claw terminals. The silver-plated surfaces show light surface wear consistent with age, complementing the metallic sheen across the entire set. It offers a functional addition for anyone interested in early cocktail culture styling.

FAQs

During the Edwardian era, silver-plated novelty barware often incorporated whimsical designs such as coopered barrels and themed ice tongs. These pieces were crafted for formal entertaining and dining room presentation.

They were typically fashioned from base metals such as nickel silver or brass, electroplated with a thin layer of pure silver (EPNS), and styled with engraved staves to simulate barrel construction.

Authentic pieces generally feature electroplate makers marks or hallmarks near the rim or base, along with appropriate natural patination and light copper showing where plating has softened.

Place the ice bucket on a dining room sideboard, drinks trolley, or home bar set-up alongside crystal glassware to create a refined focal point.

Clean gently using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized non-abrasive silver polish, ensuring the piece is thoroughly dried after hand washing to prevent tarnishing.
