Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A candle pricket is a style of candlestick featuring a vertical metal spike at the top rather than a hollow socket. The base of a wax candle is pushed directly onto the spike to hold it firmly upright, a method historically favoured for large or irregular church and altar candles.

Georgian prickets were commonly crafted from carved hardwoods such as oak or beech, often finished with ebonisation techniques, gesso, and gold leaf accents. The central pricket spike was typically forged from iron.

Authentic period pieces show natural surface wear, revealing underlying wood grain or gesso layers beneath the dark finish. Look for hand-carved asymmetry, original metal hardware showing oxidisation, and genuine age-related cracking in painted or gilded surfaces.

Display a tall pricket as a singular statement piece on a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or console table. Grouping it with contemporary ceramics or placing it against a neutral backdrop highlights its architectural profile and historical silhouette.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a fine brush to clear carved recesses. Avoid liquid cleaners, damp cloths, or aggressive waxes, as moisture and solvents can lift gold leaf and damage historical ebonised finishes.
