This Edwardian sterling silver card box, dating from 1900, is a small, pocketable accessory designed with a hinged lid and a gilt-lined interior. The exterior exhibits a cool silver tone with crisp engine-turned vertical stripes, alongside British hallmarks and a central circular cartouche engraved with a small figural motif of an arm holding a sword. The hinged lid remains fully functional while the case shows light surface wear appropriate for its age, including minor scuffs along the metal surfaces and edges. Measuring 4.5 cm high and 8.5 cm wide, the box provides a compact repository for visiting cards or small keepsakes. Today, this piece serves as a functional desktop accessory on an office desk, or as a decorative accent within a display cabinet or a gentleman's library study. The warm gold wash of the interior contrasts visibly against the striped silver exterior when the lid is lifted open. Its slim profile allows it to sit neatly among papers and desk supplies, adding a formal period detail to a workspace.

An Edwardian silver card case is a pocket-sized container produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910), designed to store calling or visiting cards, which were an essential element of social etiquette.

These cases were typically constructed from sterling silver (925 purity) and frequently featured interior silver-gilt washes to prevent tarnishing and protect paper contents from chemical reaction with oxidising metals.

Authenticity is verified by checking British hallmarks, which include a makers mark, purity mark (such as the lion passant for sterling silver), assay office mark, and a specific date letter representing the year of manufacture.

Small silver cases can be displayed flat or propped on an office desk, styled on an entryway console tray for paperclips or business cards, or featured inside a glass display cabinet.

Silver pieces should be dusted regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and gently polished using a non-abrasive silver polishing cloth to maintain lustre without eroding fine engraved details or hallmarks.
