Georgian caddy spoons emerged in the late 18th century as specialized implements designed for transferring loose tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot, often reflecting the high status and ritual associated with tea drinking during the period.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as stamping, casting, hand-engraving, and chasing, frequently incorporating naturalistic motifs like leaves, shells, and flowers.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped into the metal, which typically include a makers mark, standard mark for sterling silver, duty mark featuring the reigning monarchs head, and a date letter indicating the exact year of assay.

These small decorative items can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, arranged on a silver tray, or styled inside a dining room to add a touch of historical craftsmanship and refined detail to contemporary spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a specialized non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to preserve the patina, avoiding harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners that can damage fine engravings.
