Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian silver strawberry set traditionally comprises a cream jug, sugar bowl, and accompanying serving utensils such as sugar tongs or a sugar spoon, presented within a fitted velvet-lined case. Popular in late 19th-century Britain, these sets were designed specifically for serving fresh berries and cream during afternoon tea or dessert courses.

These sets were primarily crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring hand-spun metalwork with cast handles. The accompanying presentation boxes were constructed from wood covered in leather or faux leather, lined with silk, velvet, or satin to protect the silver pieces.

Authentic British silver items bear official hallmark impressions indicating the makers mark, silver purity standard (such as the lion passant for sterling silver), assay office mark, and a date letter. Victorian items frequently feature the monarchs head duty mark used between 1838 and 1890.

A cased silver set can be displayed open on a dining room sideboard, drinks trolley, or console table to showcase the silk lining and polished metal. Alternatively, individual pieces like the cream jug and sugar bowl can be repurposed on a tray as decorative containers or serving pieces.

Silver pieces should be cleaned gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish to remove tarnish while preserving natural patina in crevices. The plush fabric casing should be kept dry and dusted gently with a soft brush, avoiding chemical cleansers that could discolour the silk or velvet.
