Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian glazed bookcases from the mid-to-late 19th century typically feature rich burr walnut veneers, intricate marquetry or line inlay, and glass-front doors combined with open shelving. The breakfront form, featuring a central section set back or forward from the side wings, was popular in formal libraries and drawing rooms.

Cabinetmakers utilised solid pine or oak as a secondary structural timber, overlaid with high-grade burr walnut or figured walnut veneers. Decorative details often incorporated boxwood marquetry inlay, beaded brass or ormolu mounts, and handmade float glass panels.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass locks, hand-blown glass with subtle distortions, and hand-planed backboards. The underside and interior framing show natural age-related darkening rather than modern uniform cuts or fresh timber stains.

A low breakfront bookcase functions effectively as a sideboard, media console, or low display unit in contemporary living and dining spaces. Its rich timber tones provide depth and character, creating contrast against neutral walls and modern textiles.

Keep timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice yearly, and clean glass panels with a soft microfibre cloth slightly dampened with clean water.
