Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Scumble glazing is a decorative paint technique where a semi-transparent glaze is applied over a lighter base coat and combed or manipulated to imitate the richer grain pattern of costlier woods like walnut, oak, or mahogany.

Pine blanket boxes from this era were typically hand-crafted using dovetail or rebate joints, featuring solid pine boards, a hinged plank lid, internal till compartments, and turned bun or plinth feet.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural paint wear around handles, corners, and the top surface, along with period-appropriate iron hardware, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and oxidised timber on unpainted undersides.

A scumble-painted pine trunk works effectively as a coffee table in a living area, a storage bench in an entryway, or positioned at the foot of a bed to add texture and historical warmth to contemporary spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleaners that can lift historic paint layers, and apply a light coat of clear beeswax occasionally to protect the painted finish.
