Superb Miniature Chest of Drawers Writing Necessaire

A truly remarkable writing necessaire made as a bur walnut miniature chest of drawers. The piece is of the absolute finest craftsmanship throughout. The chest is veneered in matched bur walnut veneers with each drawer cockbeaded in walnut and with perfectly turned ebonised knobs. The top is edged in boxwood and crossbanded in kingwood. The feet are beautifully tuned and even the pine back has been boarded to perfectly mimic a standard sized chest. The miniature chest actually hides writing implements, with the lid lifting to reveal two inkwells and a catch releases the lowest drawer which contains writing implements. The piece is difficult to accurately date though it certainly dates to the nineteenth century, the chest design is late Regency. The piece is one of the finest pieces of miniature cabinet work I have seen and also an extremely rare and unusual writing item.
