Victorian Natural Untreated Ruby and Diamond Brooch Pendant with Gem Report

19th century
Description

A magnificent Victorian ruby and diamond brooch pendant, dating to the Victorian period and accompanied by a gemmological report confirming natural, untreated rubies, and natural diamonds.

This beautifully crafted piece is designed as an elaborate radiating cluster, centred with a vivid ruby and surrounded by concentric layers of shimmering old cut diamonds. The design has a wonderful sense of movement and light, typical of the finest late Victorian jewellery.

The stones are set in silver to the front, enhancing the brilliance of the diamonds, with a gold reverse in the traditional manner of the period. The rubies display a rich purplish-red hue and, notably, the report confirms no evidence of treatment—an increasingly desirable quality.

Both elegant and versatile, the piece may be worn as either a brooch or a pendant. The brooch fitting is removable, allowing the piece to hang beautifully when worn as a pendant, and it is complete with a safety chain.

A truly eye-catching and collectible Victorian jewel, equally suited to wear or as part of a fine antique jewellery collection.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian brooches from the mid-to-late 19th century feature intricate openwork metalwork, starburst or circular motifs, and combinations of natural gemstones set in precious metals.

Craftsmen commonly set rubies and diamonds into yellow gold, frequently pairing them with silver settings to enhance stone brilliance using hand-cut techniques and claw fastenings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut gemstones such as old-cut diamonds, hand-engraved details, period-correct fittings like long C-clasps or removable bail loops, and natural metal oxidisation.

Dual-purpose pieces can be worn pinned to the lapel of a jacket, fastened to a silk scarf, or suspended from a fine gold chain as a central neckpiece.

Clean gently with a soft-bristled brush using warm water and mild soap, avoiding chemical cleansers or ultrasonic baths that could disrupt claw settings or natural gemstone inclusions.
