Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency pier cabinet is a low, narrow storage piece originally designed to stand against the wall between two windows, known as a pier. Popularised in the early 19th century, these cabinets typically feature glazed or solid doors, fine wood veneers, and classical decorative elements.

Regency cabinetmakers favoured dark, exotic timbers such as rosewood and mahogany, often featuring distinct natural grain patterns. Construction typically incorporated solid wood frames with thin decorative veneers, glass panels for door fronts, and brass accents such as key escutcheons or grilles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original glass with subtle surface irregularities, and natural wear around handles and base moldings. The rosewood displays characteristic dark, streak-like graining, while interior secondary timbers often show age-appropriate patina and minor shrinkage gaps.

Positioning a pier cabinet in a hallway, alcove, or living area provides a low display surface for ceramics, books, or art. Its compact footprint and deep wood tones contrast effectively against contemporary neutral paint schemes and minimalist backdrops.

Maintain the cabinet by positioning it away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting. Clean surfaces using a soft, dry cotton cloth, and periodically apply a high-quality beeswax polish to nourish the wood and protect the original finish.
