Description

18th Century Pine Cabinet with Original Paint.

This fine domed-top cabinet is of a form associated with workshops in southern Germany and Austria. The top cupboard section has three shaped doors with three small drawers below, and then a central recessed section above three long drawers in the base. Each section of the piece has been painted throughout with geometric strapwork designs in imitation of inlay and the paintwork is both original and in excellent condition. The hardware on the piece has aspects of rococo decoration with shells and scrollwork and is of excellent quality. The sides are also painted but here the lines are thicker, suggesting panelling rather than inlay in their design. The cabinet stands on flattened bun feet.
