FAQs

Georgian style silver sauce boats typically feature flowing contours, cast double-scroll handles, gadrooned rims, and supportive shell or pad feet. late Victorian examples frequently revived these classic eighteenth-century proportions with precise hand-chased ornamentation.

These vessels were formed by raising sheet sterling silver over shaping stakes, with heavy components such as scroll handles and footed bases cast separately and soldered into place before hand polishing.

Authentic British sterling silver pieces bear stamped hallmarks including the lion passant for silver purity, a town mark, a date letter indicating the year of manufacture, and a makers mark.

Antique silver sauce boats serve as functional dining items during formal meals or as decorative display pieces atop dining room sideboards, dressers, and display cabinets.

Silverware should be hand-washed in warm water with mild dish soap and wiped dry immediately. Tarnish can be removed using a non-abrasive silver polish applied with a soft cotton cloth.
