Haberdashery Counter Drawers (Clark & Co)

19th century
Description

Made from solid mahogany this cabinet features two shallow pine drawers, each with original white ceramic knobs and hand-painted gilt lettering reading “Clark & Co” and “Anchor Mills.” These names relate to the well-known thread manufacturer J. & J. Clark, whose Anchor brand was widely used in haberdashery shops during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The drawers retain their original interiors, showing honest wear from use, while the exterior has developed a rich, warm patina. The hand-painted signage remains beautifully visible, adding strong decorative and historical appeal.

Originally used as a countertop storage unit in a haberdashery store, this piece would have been used to store threads, cottons, or small notions.

A highly decorative and functional piece, ideal for retail display, countertop storage, or as a characterful addition to a home interior.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
