Delivery Terms

WE OFFER FREE DELIVERY TO ENGLAND, WALES, AND SCOTLAND (BELOW PERTH)

Shipping /delivery is equally as important to us as the item of furniture itself. It is simple; we deliver everything personally in England / Wales so this way we are 100% sure that the item / furniture reaches our customers safe and sound. We NEVER use couriers. Delivery is generally within 7-14 days of purchase. We guarantee delivery anywhere in England / Wales within 21 days of purchase.

Deliveries to Scotland as far north as Perth are guaranteed within 6 weeks of purchase. If delivery is required above Perth in Scotland please contact James on 07957 392 074 or

james@davidhuntantiques.com for a price.

Deliveries are either carried out by David or James as one member of the team is required to stay in the warehouse, therefore we do require assistance from the van into your hallway with the item of furniture. We have set delivery days and once the van is loaded (a day prior to delivery) David will call customers to arrange a two hour delivery time slot. Customers will also receive a text when delivery is 30 minutes away.

It is really helpful if customers can provide their ‘what3words’ location to make delivery as smooth

as possible, especially properties in rural locations.

Ireland Deliveries

We do use a very good courier company called DVM Service to deliver goods to Ireland. We ask the customer to pay this company direct for the delivery charge and we then liaise with DVM regarding collection of a customer’s item of furniture to be shipped to Ireland.

Europe & Rest of the World

We do not ship to Europe or the Rest of the World.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hungarian painted coffers originate from Central European rural folk traditions, often created as dowry or marriage chests during the 18th and 19th centuries. Local craftsmen decorated softwoods like pine with distinctive regional floral motifs, dates, and inscriptions using traditional hand-painting techniques.

These coffers were primarily constructed from native softwoods such as pine or fir, joined using hand-cut dovetails or peg construction. The surfaces were finished with mineral-based paints or distemper, protected by varnish, and fitted with forged iron hardware.

Authentic period pieces exhibit uneven hand-planed timber, period-correct iron hinges or locks, natural paint shrinkage, and authentic surface patination. Genuine paintwork shows realistic wear along edges and handles rather than uniform artificial distressing.

A compact painted coffer serves well as a decorative accent in an entryway, living room alcove, or at the foot of a bed. Its rich painted motifs provide warmth and historical texture, creating a focal point when placed alongside modern minimalist furnishings.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent paint flaking and timber cracking. Dust softly with a dry microfibre cloth, and apply a neutral beeswax polish sparingly to protect the painted surface without lifting original pigment.
