Edwardian 9ct Gold Amethyst and Seed Pearl Pendant Necklace S. Blanckensee & Son

1900 - 1920
Description

Edwardian 9ct Gold Amethyst & Seed Pearl Pendant Necklace by S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd c.1910

This elegant Edwardian pendant necklace, dating to around 1910, is a beautifully handcrafted example of the refined and romantic jewellery of the period.

The openwork pendant is formed in warm 9ct gold with graceful scrolling lines that frame a delicate foliate motif. Four tiny flowers, each centred with a lustrous seed pearl, decorate the design and add soft highlights against the gold. At the centre sits a vibrant round amethyst of rich purple hue, while a further amethyst drop below provides gentle movement and an additional touch of colour.

The pendant is suspended from a fine 9ct gold trace link chain secured with a traditional barrel clasp. Light, elegant and beautifully balanced, it sits perfectly when worn and reflects the delicate craftsmanship so admired in Edwardian jewellery.

The reverse of the pendant carries the maker’s mark S B&S Ltd for S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd, a respected Birmingham jeweller known for producing finely made pieces during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.

Graceful, feminine and timeless, this necklace remains just as enchanting today as when it was first made over a century ago.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian jewellery, produced between 1901 and 1910, is characterised by light openwork designs, delicate garland and foliate motifs, and the frequent pairing of seed pearls with vibrant coloured gemstones set in gold or platinum.

Pendant necklaces from this period were commonly crafted using 9ct, 15ct, or 18ct yellow gold and platinum, accented with natural gemstones like amethyst, peridot, or garnet alongside split seed pearls.

Authentic pieces display period gold fineness stamps or full regional hallmarks, precise scrollwork or millgrain filigree, and hand-set gemstones and seed pearls consistent with early twentieth-century manufacturing techniques.

A delicate Edwardian pendant serves as an elegant focal point when layered with fine gold chains or worn against modern tailoring, crew-neck knitwear, and formal attire.

Keep the item stored in a dry, soft-lined container away from direct moisture, and clean gold and gemstones gently using a soft, dry cloth while keeping seed pearls free from liquid exposure.
