Early 19th C Bronze Atlas Lamp Imo Messenger

Fascinating 19th century William IV period English dark patinated and gilt bronze early lamp depicting Atlas holding up the earth possibly by Thomas Messenger. Octagonal plinth base with applied satyr mask mounts. Adapted for electricity probably in the early 20th century. A version of this model with an earlier globe can be seen in Room 609, Sully wing, Louvre, Paris which was aquired from the collection of notable French antiquitarian Nicolas Landau. England, circa 1835.
