Set of Four Georgian, English, Hop and Barley Engraved Plain Stem Ale Glasses

18th century
Description

This is a set of four mouth-blown, Georgian, English, hop and barley engraved plain stem ale glasses dating from the second half of the 18th century, c1780.

The glasses are in excellent condition for their age. They show age related wear and tear to the rims of the feet consistent with some 200+ years of use.

The glasses have been blown in clear glass. The glasses have funnel-shaped bowls measuring 6.5 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter at the rims. The bowls are engraved with a single hop flower on one side and with crossed barley ears to verso. The bowls lead to extruded plain stems and conical feet which measure 7.1 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter. The glasses are 15 cm (6.5 inches) in height. Dimensions and weights vary slightly from glass to glass as should be expected of hand-blown glassware. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious signs of restoration.

Each glass weighs in at 150 g. ( ~ 5 oz.).
