Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the Netherlands between 1910 and 1930, the Amsterdam School was an expressionist architecture and design movement. Metalwork from this era frequently features organic, sculptural forms, heavy hand-hammered textures, and structural accents influenced by Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts movement.

Pricket candlesticks were historically crafted using durable metals such as brass, bronze, copper, and wrought iron. The central feature is a sharp vertical metal spike, or pricket, designed to impale and securely hold large wax candles above a wide drip pan.

Authentic period pieces display planishing marks from manual hammering, hand-finished joinery, and natural patination in crevices. Look for structural elements like riveted ironwork, heavy weight, and subtle irregularities consistent with handcraftsmanship rather than mass production.

Place a pair symmetrically on a wooden sideboard, console table, or dining surface to create focal height and sculptural interest. Complement the metallic tones by surrounding them with muted neutral ceramics, dark timber furniture, or natural stone surfaces.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to clean the surface without lifting the established patina. Avoid abrasive chemical polishes or water immersion, which can damage original surface oxidisation, and use a soft brush to clear wax remnants.
