Description

A large beautifully painted vase by one of the Meiji periods finest artists Okamoto Ryozan , who was head painter for the Yasuda Company .

Each side of this excellent vase in the typical Ryozan style and quality , an important Satsuma vase made when Satsuma had reached it`s peak. this vase exudes quality and shows the work of a superior artist at his best .Fully signed Okamoto Ryozan and with the Yasuda Company seal .

Excellent condition , no damage , no restoration .

Satsuma pottery is a style of Japanese earthenware ceramics that originated in the Satsuma province during the late sixteenth century. It is distinguished by its yellowish-cream earthenware body, fine crackle glaze, and intricate polychrome enamel with gilded decoration.

Traditional Satsuma ceramics were crafted using local earthenware clay, fired at relatively low temperatures, and coated with a clear glaze engineered to produce fine surface crazing.
