Bristol blue glass refers to deep cobalt blue glassware produced in Bristol, England, during the late 18th and 19th centuries, though the style was widely imitated across continental Europe, particularly in France where pieces were often embellished with enamel and gilding.

These decorative containers are typically crafted from mould-blown or free-blown cobalt glass, featuring hand-painted vitreous enamel decoration and gilded metallic mounts with small hinges.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-applied enamel with slight tactile relief, genuine wear to the gilding consistent with age, and traditional hand-tooled metal mounts rather than modern machine-stamped components.

Such decorative objects work well placed on a dressing table, mantelpiece, or open shelf, adding a concentrated focal point of rich colour and historical craftsmanship to contemporary spaces.

Pieces should be cleaned using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to avoid damaging the delicate surface enamel and gilding, keeping them out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
