Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Victorian gentleman's library bookcase stands 262 cm high, 261 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, providing substantial storage for books and display objects. Constructed from mahogany with a warm brown finish, the substantial piece displays a moulded top cornice above four glazed cabinet doors with brass handles, opening to reveal internal wooden shelving. The lower section incorporates four drawers, each fitted with swing handles and raised plates, supported by a plinth base. Ideal for a study, library, or living room, the bookcase provides functional display space behind glass doors alongside enclosed drawer storage. The natural wood grain shows throughout the timber surfaces, complemented by the glazed compartments and classical architectural proportions typical of the period.

A library bookcase is a large piece of storage furniture, often constructed in sections with glazed upper doors and solid lower cupboards or drawers, designed primarily to protect and display extensive book collections.

Traditional bookcases were typically crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, float glass panes, and adjustable wooden shelving supported by timber ratchets or metal pegs.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit signs of age such as slight irregularities in original glass panes, hand-planed back panels, timber shrinkage along joinery, and period-correct hardware like cast brass handles or iron locks.

A large glazed bookcase functions effectively as a focal piece in a formal dining room, hallway, or home office, serving to display curio collections, ceramics, and artwork alongside traditional books to create visual balance.

Preserve the finish by dusting regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and applying a beeswax polish once or twice a year, while maintaining stable humidity levels and keeping the timber out of direct sunlight.
