Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A 19th-century French bedside cabinet, often referred to as a commode de nuit or night locker, is a small freestanding piece of bedroom furniture traditionally used to store personal items and house a chamber pot or wash basin.

These pieces were typically crafted from solid walnut, oak, or mahogany frameworks featuring exquisite burl walnut veneers, and were frequently topped with contrasting slabs of marble, such as grey or white carrara.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails on drawer boxes, traditional timber shrinkage, hand-forged or cast brass hardware, and patination consistent with age and genuine use.

This type of cabinet can be integrated into modern schemes as a functional bedside table or an occasional accent piece in a living room, contrasting clean lines with rich historical textures and organic materials.

Maintain the piece by dusting with a soft, dry cloth, applying a microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood periodically, and using coasters or protective pads on the marble surface to prevent staining from moisture or acids.
