Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 20th-century Edwardian ceiling light is an English Country House style heavy brass and clear glass lantern of sextagonal form. The polished brass frame holds curved glass panels, embellished with cast Rococo scrollwork mounts, acanthus leaves, trailing foliate motifs, scroll finials, and internal candle arms beneath a suspension chain ceiling rosette. Notable details include the turned central spindle, small scroll feet, and curved glass corners. The lantern measures 68.5 cm high, 34.3 cm wide, and 34.3 cm deep. Such a light suits a grand hallway, high-ceilinged entrance hall, or traditional reception room to provide overhead illumination. It hangs securely from a ceiling rose and chain assembly, casting light downwards through its transparent panels to illuminate architectural details and architectural spaces below.

FAQs

Hall lanterns of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras were designed to enclose light sources within glass panels, protecting flames or early electrical fittings from draughts in entryways and corridors.

These fixtures are predominantly constructed from cast or stamped brass, fitted with clear curved or flat glass panels, and assembled with threaded metal components and decorative scrollwork.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast brass components, hand-cut or hand-moulded glass panels, original threaded fittings, and natural variations from hand-finishing rather than uniform modern machine production.

A glazed brass pendant lantern functions as a focal point in double-height entry halls, traditional stairwells, or above a dining table to provide ambient illumination while accentuating architectural details.

Dust the glass panels and brass frame regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that could strip protective lacquers or historical patination.
