Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French hall lanterns historically featured cast bronze frames, curved or flat glass panels, and ornamental crests reflecting styles such as Louis XV or Louis XVI. Designed to protect candles or gas jets from draughts in corridors and foyers, they combine functional illumination with classical architectural motifs.

These lighting fixtures were primarily constructed using cast bronze or brass, often finished with fire gilding, silver plating, or patination. The surrounding enclosures utilised hand-blown or curved glass panels suspended from cast metal links and canopies.

Authentic period lanterns display heavy, hand-chased bronze castings with visible tool marks, hand-cut screw threads, and unevenness typical of historical metalworking. Patination, signs of original gilding wear, and hand-bent glass frames also distinguish antique examples from modern reproductions.

Suspended in double-height entrance foyers, stairwells, or above central hallways, a large metal lantern provides a defined focal point. Pairing historical metalwork with contemporary neutral palettes highlights the architectural lines of the fixture.

Dust metal elements gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush without chemical polishes, which strip historical silvering or gilding. Clean glass panels with a mild solution of isopropyl alcohol applied via cotton swabs to prevent liquid from touching oxidised metal joins.
