Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Dutch marquetry is a decorative woodworking technique involving the application of thin pieces of veneer to form intricate floral or pictorial designs, which gained immense popularity in the Netherlands during the 17th and 18th centuries.

These pieces typically feature a carcase of oak or pine overlaid with fine veneers of walnut, mahogany, or exotic fruitwoods, hand-cut with contrasting lighter woods such as maple or boxwood to create the pictorial motifs.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-cut variations in the veneer inlay, natural ageing of the wood such as subtle oxidisation and shrinkage cracks, and traditional joinery methods appropriate to the stated period.

Balancing the visual weight of heavily decorated antique furniture is achieved by pairing it with neutral walls, minimalist surrounding decor, and edited interior styling to let the craftsmanship stand out as a focal point.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent the fading of delicate veneers, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax rather than modern silicon polishes.
