The Georgian era, spanning the reigns of the four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, meticulous hand-engraving, and functional elegance in domestic utensils.

These pieces typically feature blades forged from sterling silver, often with bright-cut engraved decoration, joined to turned or carved mother-of-pearl handles using internal pins and silver ferrules.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hallmarks indicating the assay office, makers mark, and sterling standard, alongside signs of hand-craftsmanship and age-related surface wear on the nacre and metal.

These items can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, used on a dining table for special occasions, or incorporated into curated tabletop vignettes on sideboards.

Both materials require gentle hand-washing with mild soap and warm water, followed by immediate drying. Mother-of-pearl should be kept away from harsh chemicals and extreme temperature fluctuations.
