Victorian scent bottles were essential vanity accessories used during the 19th century to carry liquid perfumes or smelling salts, reflecting the fashion and etiquette of the era.

These pieces typically combine hand-blown or mould-blown crystal glass with sterling silver caps, often featuring intricate repousse, chasing, or hobnail cutting techniques.

Authenticity is usually confirmed by clear British hallmarks on the silver cap, indicating the assay office, date letter, and silversmiths mark, alongside period-correct glass manufacturing characteristics.

They can be displayed on a mirrored tray on a dressing table or arranged on a bookshelf alongside other small collectables to add a touch of historical texture and colour.

Clean the glass gently with a soft, damp cloth and use a specialist non-abrasive silver cloth on the metal components, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the hallmarks or glass.
