Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver napkin rings emerged in nineteenth-century Europe as a practical means to identify individual linen napkins between laundering cycles. Over time, they evolved into prestigious dining accessories, often given as gifts for christenings, weddings, and special milestones.

These items were typically crafted from solid sterling silver or high-grade silver plate, formed using rolling and seam-joining techniques. Decorative details such as engine turning, engraving, or hand-chased borders were applied prior to final polishing.

Authentic British silver pieces feature makers markssuch as the M&W stamp for Mappin & Webbalongside official assay office hallmarking stamps indicating purity, location, and date letters. Cased sets frequently retain original maker branding stamped inside the silk box lining.

Display cased napkin rings open on a dining sideboard or dress a contemporary dinner table by pairing polished silver rings with crisp linen napkins to add subtle texture and sheen to table settings.

Clean silver napkin rings regularly with a soft cloth and specialist silver polish to prevent tarnish, avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners. Keep the presentation box in a dry environment, dusting the velvet and silk interior gently with a soft brush.
