Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese ceramic wares produced in the Arita region and exported from the port of Imari. Characterised by a distinctive palette of underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron-red, and gilt embellishments, this style became widely sought after across Europe from the late seventeenth century onwards.

Crafted from fine white kaolin clay, Imari wares underwent a multi-stage firing process. The cobalt blue patterns were painted onto the raw body and fired at high temperatures under a clear glaze, after which overglaze iron-red enamels and gold leaf detailing were applied before a final low-temperature kiln firing.

Authentic antique pieces feature characteristic asymmetrical designs, floral reserves, and geometric brocade patterns. Inspection of the underside often reveals spur marks from kiln supports, slight irregularities in the hand-painted decoration, and a smooth, slightly bluish tinted glaze around the foot rim.

These decorative plates are frequently displayed on brass stands within open shelving, arranged in symmetry on a sideboard, or mounted as a curated wall gallery. Their rich palette provides a striking contrast against neutral painted backdrops or dark timber furniture.

To preserve the delicate overglaze enamels and gilding, wipe gently with a soft dry cloth or lukewarm water with mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaning agents, chemical solvents, or immersion in hot water, and never place antique hand-painted porcelain in a dishwasher.
