This is a magnificent large antique French bronze sculptural lamp depicting the model ''Gloire Et Fortune'', by the renowned Parisian sculptor, Emile Louis Picault (1833-1915), Circa 1900 in date.
The model shown standing with drapery held around his waist by an elaborate belt with a purse hanging from the belt and his left-hand dipping into it. His right hand is raised holding a light with a flaming glass torch, standing over sheaves of corn, a compass, a wheel and drapery on a square base.
It is inscribed PER LABOREM
(''through work'' or ''by means of labor''),
signed E. PICAULT, and inscribed at the front
GLOIRE ET FORTUNE,
(evokes wealth and fame, often in a romantic or ambitious way).
