Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Treen refers to small handmade functional wooden objects. Gilt treen candlesticks are carved or turned wooden candle holders coated with gesso and gold leaf, widely crafted throughout Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries.

These pieces were shaped on a lathe from woods such as pine or beech, carved with decorative turnings, coated in a plaster-like gesso substrate, and finished with leaf gilding and iron pricket tops.

Authentic items exhibit natural rubbing and flaking to the gilding that exposes underlying gesso or timber, alongside irregular hand-carved detailing and historic oxidation on metal pricket inserts.

Arranging a pair on a mantelpiece, sideboard top, or dining table centre introduces warm texture and historical interest when paired against neutral or contemporary backgrounds.

Dust carefully with a dry, soft brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid water, damp cloths, and chemical cleaners, as moisture can dissolve historic gesso layers and strip loose gold leaf.
