Decanter labels, often called bottle tickets, emerged in England during the mid-18th century as decanters replaced heavy wine bottles, becoming highly decorative accessories by the Georgian era.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, occasionally featuring old Sheffield plate or gold wash accents, often manufactured using techniques such as piercing, stamping, and hand-engraving.

Authenticity is determined by checking for clear hallmarks, including the makers mark, standard mark, duty mark, and assay office symbol, alongside examining the depth of hand-engraving and natural oxidation patterns.

These items can be displayed on vintage decanters placed on a bar cart, styled inside a glass-front cabinet, or arranged on a silver tray as part of a sophisticated dining room display.

Preservation involves storing pieces in tarnish-resistant cloths, cleaning infrequently with a microfibre cloth and gentle silver polish, and avoiding harsh chemical dips to protect the patina.
