A most unusual cut glass novelty biscuit barrel dating from the 1830''s and formed to represent a melon. The ovoid body is extensively cut with strawberry diamonds and vertical cut panels. The rim is cut into ''leaves'' and the lid has matching cutting with a ''stem'' terminal. Novelty pieces from this era are much in demand and this lovely piece, as decorative as it is practical.
