Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Old Sheffield Plate is an early form of silver plating produced by fusing a layer of silver to a copper core, typically used from the mid-18th to the mid-19th century before electroplating was invented.

Items of this era were typically constructed using a fused sheet of sterling silver over a heavy copper base, often featuring soldered seams and hand-raised or spun forms with applied wire rims.

Authenticity is often verified by observing the subtle copper bleed along cut edges or seams, lack of makers marks due to early legislation, and a characteristic warm lustre distinct from modern silver plate.

These pieces can be displayed on a sideboard, bar cart, or open shelving as polished metallic accents that add historical texture and contrast to contemporary schemes.

Clean gently with a soft cloth and a non-abrasive silver polish formulated for plated items, avoiding excessive rubbing to prevent wearing through the thin silver layer to the copper beneath.
