Georgian glassware spans the reigns of the four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by heavy lead content, characteristic tool marks, and relatively simple, functional forms that evolved into more ornate cut glass designs towards the end of the period.

These pieces were typically crafted from potash-lime or lead metal glass, mouth-blown into moulds or free-blown by craftsmen, and finished with a rough pontil mark on the base where the glassmakers rod was snapped off.

Authentic pieces often display minor surface irregularities, small air bubbles trapped within the metal, microscopic wear scratches on the base, and a polished or snapped pontil scar rather than a completely flat, machine-made base.

Antique glassware brings historical texture to contemporary spaces and can be displayed simply on open shelving, used to hold single stems on a dining table, or grouped on a sideboard to catch and reflect natural light.

Hand wash pieces gently in warm water using a mild, non-abrasive detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes that can cause thermal shock, and never place them in a dishwasher.
