We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the George III period, silver sauce tureens emerged as central components of formal dining, designed to hold warm sauces and gravies. These vessels reflected changing culinary fashions and neoclassical or rococo aesthetic sensibilities in 18th-century Britain.

These tureens were crafted from sterling silver, comprising 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Silversmiths utilised hand-hammering, casting for handles and legs, and hand-chasing or engraving for decorative details.

Authentic British pieces bear a full set of silver hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the makers mark, sovereigns head, lion passant purity mark, assay town mark, and date letter. Additionally, genuine 18th-century silver shows natural wear patterns, hand-joint solder lines, and period-appropriate weight.

Antique silver tureens serve as decorative accents when displayed on a sideboard, dining table centre, or open shelving. They can be left as standalone decorative objects or repurposed to display seasonal flora.

To maintain silver, polish periodically using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish formulated to remove oxidisation without scratching. Avoid abrasive cleaners or dishwashers, and store items in anti-tarnish felt bags in humidity-controlled environments.
